My Story
Hi! I’m Kathy Paauw.
For more than a decade I have been at the helm of my thriving coaching and consulting business, offering services ranging from productivity consulting and training to personal and professional coaching. Over the years, my client base has grown mostly by word-of- mouth.
I work with hundreds of clients each year to help them de-clutter their schedules, spaces and minds so they can focus on what’s most important. My clients consist of professionals, managers, executives, business owners, sales agents, and domestic engineers (a fancy term for stay-at-home moms and dads).
One of my most successful means of maintaining good client relations is to send out personalized birthday and thank you cards. My clients love them! The trouble was, I used to run out of cards or run out of time to send them, so not all clients got cards in a timely manner, despite my best intentions. For a while I was sending e-Cards, but I soon realized how quickly those were forgotten with the mere click of a mouse. (A couple of my clients have told me that their email inbox is so full and they're so tired of e-Cards that they no longer open them.)
You may be wondering why someone with a thriving practice would have an interest in taking on a new venture. In September 2005, some personal events tumbled my life upside down and forced me to completely reorder my priorities. I've found that sending a personalized card is much more cost-effective and less time consuming than sending cards from a card shop … and the effect is much more lingering than an e-Card, since paper cards are often kept on display and read over and over. I can add a message in my own handwriting and can even include a picture!
With the ease and efficiency of our system , I am able to send notes of encouragement and personalized thank you cards to my clients as soon as I feel prompted to do so. And something wonderful has been happening! I receive calls or notes from my clients to thank me for the thoughtful cards they receive. The more cards I send, the more calls I get from friends, relatives, clients, and other people I do business with. People are HUNGRY for something besides bills and junk mail in their mailboxes. I love how the cards help me feel more connected! And, of course, staying connected often leads to new or returning business and referrals.
At the completion of some consulting work I recently did, I sent a card of encouragement to a client who had a lot of work cut out for her in reorganizing many years of disorganized archived files she had inherited with her new job. She responded to my card by sending back a note on her personal stationery that contained this hand-written message (shared with her permission):
"Personally, I wanted to thank you for your assistance, but most of all, for your kind words within your inspirational card. If I should become discouraged or overwhelmed, I will certainly look upon your card for a bit of encouragement -- for the light at the end of a very long tunnel. The support and assistance you have extended mean so much!"
